PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING KENDALL'S 125th ANNIVERSARY

ANNIVERSARY EDITION :: Presenting 125 Years Of Performance

We are excited to announce that 2006 marks the 125th birthday of Kendall Motor Oil! In 1881, the Kendall Refining Company opened for business, and has evolved into the premier lubricants brand that we all know and love today. We plan to celebrate this milestone all year long, and this month we thought it would be fun to uncover interesting events and trivia from 1881 for our first installment of a new monthly column celebrating 125 years of Kendall product innovation!

  • The price of milk went up to an "unheard of" eight cents a gallon in 1881
  • 1881 was the only year that three men served as President of the United States. Rutherford Birchard Hayes finished his four-year term on March 3, 1881. The following day, President James Abram Garfield was sworn in as 20th President of the United States. Garfield was assassinated one-hundred ninety-nine days into his term and was replaced by Vice President Chester Alan Arthur
  • Legendary Western outlaw Billy the Kid, whose real name was Henry McCarty but who also went by William Bonney and Kid Antrim, was shot on July 14, 1881
  • In Major League Baseball, Roger Conner of the Troy Trojans hit the first grand slam in Major League history en route to an 8-7 win over the Worcester Ruby Legs
  • The American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881
  • The first international telephone conversation was exchanged July 1, 1881

Stay tuned for more fun and historical facts about Kendall
as we celebrate Kendall's 125th birthday
